During their recent visit at the ITTF headquarters, a class of students from the International Academy of Sports and Technology was shown how the former mild social diversion has become a world class sport featuring great athleticism.
On the tour of the ITTF Museum, Curator Chuck Hoey underlined his flair for entertainment and his value as a table tennis ambassador.
From Fidel Castro and Liz Taylor to Tiger Woods
After the tour of the museum, a video showing some of the all-time greatest shots and rallies in table tennis impressed the visitors. "The visit not only gave us a better understanding of table tennis but also furthered our interest in the ITTF", one of the visitors remarked.
But why is the ITTF Museum so popular even for people from outside table tennis? The curator realised that these students had a strong interest in sport and all aspects of sports management. However, the main reason for its popularity is that there is not only table tennis but also a bit of glamour.
"The Guess Who ...? celebrity photo gallery was fun for the students, creating a lively atmosphere", Mr. Hoey looked back. "They all tried to identify the stars playing table tennis, ranging from leaders such as Fidel Castro, to famous musicians like the Beatles; from movie stars such as Charlie Chaplin, Liz Taylor and Sean Connery, to sports heroes like Ronaldinho, Federer, and Tiger Woods."
